After 5 late changes to the selected sides last week, we find ourselves in a worse position this week, with 21 players unavailable for selection. This does not include some players who are uncertain of their fitness or commitments!Unfortunately (for us) Owen Morgan and Scott Phillips have to travel down to Hampshire with the Wales Under 15 squad. Others are on holiday or are working. Two have long term injuries, while the rest seem to choose when they want to play. Team games require team players, something that seems to be lacking in at the moment. If any player who has informed us that they are not available, but their circumstances have since changed, please inform Chairman of Selectors, Jim Brown (01554 820567) as soon as possible, before tomorrow night's Committee Meeting if possible. There may be ex-players out there who could offer their services to help out. We have a great set of junior players who have been prepared to help out at short notice this season. However, with so many players missing this weekend, even that source may now be stretched
10 WICKET WIN FOR THIRDS After yet another frustrating pre-match experience, with players pulling out throughout the week, the three senior sides that played on Saturday can look back with a fair bit of satisfaction. The best performance was achieved by the Third XI, who beat their Neath counterparts by 10 wickets. Neath were "bowled out" for 112, with Marcus Thomas taking 4 for 10 in 10 overs, Oliver Jones 3 for 23, Matthew Jones 2 for 17 and Scott Phillips claiming 1 for 28. The bowlers were well supported by good fielding, especially by the three youngsters (Hari Stevens, Iwan Hicks and Toby Osborne) who were drafted in at the last minute. With clinical ease, the visitors total was overtaken in an outstanding opening partnership between Marcus Thomas and James Taube. Marcus scored 54 not out and James, playing bravely with an injured elbow, was also not out on 43. In the Park, the Firsts did well to deny an Ammanford team including Glamorgan's Dean Cosker, a win. The visitors scored 239 for 7, with Stuart Goddard taking 3 for 42,Owen Morgan took 2 for 37 in 15 overs and Ryan Willey 2 for 59. After losing early wickets, it was left to the middle order to steady the ship - Stuart Goddard with 27, Simon Donoghue 38 and an undefeated nineth wicket partnership of 57, between Simon Clement (33 and Jonathan Taube ( 20), taking our score to 149 for 8 at the end of the fifty overs. The Second XI also refused to be beaten and did exceptionally well to score 250 for 8 in reply to Ammanford 2nds big score of 290 for 7. Alun Evans, promoted from the Thirds was the pick of our bowlers taking 4 for 55. Despite carrying a recurring knee injury, captain for the day, Nathan Jones, produced a classy innings of 72. Euros Jones scored 34 and Alun Thomas' innings of 42 not out included two sixes. One feature of the game was the inclusion of four Nagalia brothers - Richard, Michael, Rohan and David. The family affair was extended by the father and son combination of Euros and Deiniol Jones. Well done to all those who played and ensured that the three teams were unbeaten this weekend.
